What??!!

We are how far from Melbourne?!?! How did this happen? Oh, there's ice cream? Fine then...
This was Daly Waters Pub.
Catching a Barramundi by hand ....
The boys loved Bitter Springs at Mataranka and the life jackets got another work out. At Bitter Springs we floated for 100m or so down the spring fed, pandanus fringed river. Magic.

Tooth #4

Another tooth out (bottom right). This one at Bitter Springs, Mataranka. Curiously this was noticed after lunch and we can't find the tooth ...

Back to Halloween..

We've had some complaints about the infrequency of our blog posts. Our commitment has been waning, I agree.. So, just to fill in some gaps, we return to the 31st October..

First photo is the landscape between Alice and Devil's Marbles. Not much to say. Think we all slept most of the way.

Second and last photo are the main attractions at Wycliffe Well - the UFO capital of Australia. The boys did get a bit nervous about being abducted by aliens from the tent that night. The combination of camping on Halloween night at a place called Devil's Marbles after visiting a place of homage to UFO sightings was just too much for some of us to bear.. Will wanted to know if we could padlock every tent door (there are four of them - we have two padlocks). As Matt helpfully added, "padlocks won't stop an alien". More on the Marbles in the next post.

The third photo is for Matt. The insurance he was not allowed to have.. Matt loves all types of insurance, but I really had to draw the line at this one.

Devils Marbles

Our campsite. Mum, please note the piece of fruit in the foreground (orange). Others, please note the blue 20 litre water bottles that the tent is tied too.
The ground was too hard for pegs. No problem says Matt. We can tether the tent to heavy stuff. Water bottles, camp table, wooden posts, and eventually to the car itself, as the calm, still evening turned into a roaring wind that lasted for the entire night. Apparently just wishing that wind would stop is not enough. And it is sometimes necessary to hold a tent up from the inside with your feet... The boys slept soundly ALL night unconcerned by the tent being flattened!
The photos of the Marbles are, as usual, better on the other camera..
We were allowed to climb these Rocks, which was great for the kids but of some concern for us...
